Chairperson of the State Nuclear Regulatory Committee of Ukraine Ms. Olena Mykolaichuk visited France in the period of 24-28 February 2009 with a working visit.  During this visit, organized in connection with invitation of French authorities, the managers of the SNRCU and Nuclear Safety Authority of France discussed further intensification of bilateral dialogue and cooperation. The regulatory authorities of both countries signed an Agreement on exchange of technical information and cooperation in the area of nuclear safety and radiation protection.

 

The program of the visit envisaged meeting of managers of the regulatory authority of Ukraine and the Institute of radiation protection and nuclear safety of France. During this meeting an Agreement on cooperation in the area of nuclear safety and radiation protection has been signed.

 

Furthermore, Ms. Olena Mykolaichuk visited the construction site of nuclear power plant in Flamanville, where issues of licensing of new power units and actions on agreement of viewpoints with the public and government been discussed. The defining of role of the regulatory authority in the process of site selection for the construction of new power units in very important for Ukraine therefore obtained information and experience will be considered while drafting proposals on legislative regulation of open issues and implementation of Energy strategy.
