On December 06-07, 2007 IAEA experts
Adrienne Naisych and Ilar Mansu visited the State Nuclear Regulatory Committee of
Ukraine
During
the visit foreign experts trained SNRCU staff to prepare for holding IAEA mission
“Integrated Regulatory Review Service” (IRRS mission) which is planned on July,
2008.
During this meeting
IAEA experts introduced the general rules and requirements on IRRS organization
and holding, gave the practical advises base on own experience of carrying out
of self-assessment of own activity by authority for nuclear safety which is
obligatory condition of IRRS mission preparation. The
practical studies for preparation of answers the questions on regulating
activity in area of nuclear and radiation safety.
In Ukraine
the IRRS mission is planned on June 08-20, 2008 under
presidency of the Head of one of IAEA
country-member.
IRRS missions have been
implemented by IAEA for the purpose of strengthening
and improvement of efficiency of
state regulation in sphere of
nuclear and radiating safety in IAEA member countries and simultaneously defining the basic obligations for providing the safety of nuclear
installations, ionizing sources, radioactive
waste management, transportations
of nuclear materials. IRRS missions are realized by the analysis
Similar missions already took place in Ukraine in
1998 and 2001. By results of their
work IAEA experts have prepared corresponding reports with recommendations
and proposals on improvement of regulating activity in the field of nuclear
and radiating safety of Ukraine.
Also reports included examples of positive practice
regulating activity Ukraine which can be
useful to other countries.
