On October 30-31, 2007 in SNRCU the 1st
organizational meeting on affairs of holding a meeting of IAEA mission
“Integrated Regulatory Review Service” (IRRS) in Ukraine took place. The SNRCU high
level management and IAEA experts took part in this meeting.
IRRS mission will be hold with purpose of
realization of “Memorandum between Ukraine and EC on mutual
understanding concerning cooperation in energetic field” dated 01.12.2005 where
general interests in energetic field are defined.
During this meeting the questions
of the effective organisation and holding mission, creation of working
group which will directly carry out
the review of activity of the Ukrainian regulating body in sphere of nuclear
and radiating safety were discussed. Also it has
been preliminary decided, that mission will hold on June 08-20, 2008 under presidency
of the Head of one of IAEA country-member.
IRRS
missions have been implemented by IAEA for the purpose of
strengthening and improvement of efficiency of state regulation in sphere of
nuclear and radiating safety in IAEA member countries and
simultaneously defining the basic obligations for providing the safety of nuclear installations, ionizing
sources,
radioactive waste management, transportations of nuclear
materials. IRRS missions are realized by the analysis of existing practice of
regulating body of the certain country on conformity toIAEA
standards.
Similar
missions already took place in Ukraine in 1998 and 2001. By results of
their work IAEA experts have
prepared corresponding reports with recommendations and proposals on
improvement
of regulating
activity in
the field of nuclear and radiating safety of Ukraine. Also reports included
examples of positive practice regulating activity
Ukraine which can be useful to other countries.
