Cooperation between regulatory bodies of countries, where the WWER reactors have being operated, are extended.

On October 30, 2007 the work visit of Head of Czech State body on nuclear safety Dana Drabova  to SNRCU has been finished. Visit was accomplished in frame of “Agreement between SNRCU and Czech State body on nuclear safety for cooperation in field of state regulating and inspectorate under safety at using nuclear energy” dated September 19, 2001.

During the visit the number of meetings between SNRCU and Czech regulatory body management took place. Issues of further development of mutual cooperation in context of intention of Ukraine to become full EC member have been discussed.  Czech experts shared the experience on conformity to requirements of nuclear unit safety during entry into EC and role of regulatory body in this process. A lot of attention was attended to WENRA activity (non-governmental organization which includes Heads of regulatory bodies of EC member-countries) and possible ways of engaging Ukraine to its work as observer.  Also the problems of prolongation of terms of NPP operation and possibility of building the new units, the questions of qualification of nuclear fuel produced by “Westinhouse” (USA), assessment of Ukrainian and Czech NPPs safety have been discussed.

Moreover the questions of cooperation between regulatory bodies of countries where the WWER reactor are operated  have been discussed. Dana Drabova proposed to discuss during next Forum of WWER regulators the creation of work groups which include countries using WWER unit with purpose of development of general approaches for increasing efficiency of regulating safety of specific units. The preliminary agreement on holding meeting of Heads of regulatory bodies of Ukraine, Bulgaria and Czech Republic in April, 2008 has been reached.
