The Grant Agreement No.007 for
licensing support of new storage facility for spent nuclear fuel at the
Chernobyl NPP (ISF-2) was signed on 8th of July, 2009 between the European Bank for Reconstruction and
Development, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the State Nuclear Regulatory Committee of
Ukraine.
To meet the requirements of
Ukrainian legislation the Grant Agreement was ratified by Verhovna
Rada of Ukraine on the 20th of
January, 2010 and enacted by the President's signature on the 28t of January,
2010.
The overall objective of the Grant
Agreement is support to the SNRCU and other state regulatory authorities of Ukraine with
respect to implementation of regulatory activities related to construction,
commissioning and operation of ISF-2 to guarantee adequate consideration of the
safety issues. Similar support shall be necessary for the liquid radwaste treatment plant at the Chernobyl NPP (LRTP).
To ensure implementation of
international experience, best European practice and international standards in
nuclear and radiation safety international experts will be involved in
licensing support of ISF-2 and LRTP.
